When people consider starting to carry out email marketing campaigns, one of the first questions that arises is how to get the emails of the first people to send the information to.

Getting a volume of subscribers large enough for e-mail marketing to become a profitable tool is an arduous task for freelancers and SMEs whose business activity is not very large. The required size of the database will vary between companies and sectors of activity.

For this reason, Linkedin has launched its own newsletter service so that millions of users can send them to their contacts.

Linkedin newsletters

The professional social network par excellence is Linkedin. 300 million users around the world use it, both companies looking to fill a position and people who are unemployed or want to change jobs.

In Spain, Linkedin has more than 6 million members and is the fastest growing network according to an IAB study.

The newsletters on LinkedIn are not comparable to the typical newsletters that you subscribe to on a website, since they are focused on professional and relevant topics, topics that you can talk about regularly and that you know in depth.

An important point is that it is a format that is accessed only by invitation, and the social network for now does not accept requests to become the author of their newsletters.

However, it is foreseeable that it will not take long to open to all users. In any case, anyone can discover, subscribe, read and of course share the newsletters on LinkedIn.

How to create a newsletter on Linkedin

To start creating a newsletter on this platform, you must first get the invitation from Linkedin. If you already have such an invitation, you will have to select the option “Write an article” at the top of your home screen. This link will take you directly to the publishing tool.

In it you must click on the option “create a newsletter”. As you would do on a regular basis, you must add a title, the description, the text of your content, and add an image and that’s it.

Follow-up of newsletter on Linkedin

Users can follow and subscribe to newsletters on the social network, the difference is that if a user follows a medium, person or company, they will receive some notifications about the content that they upload, but if they subscribe to the newsletter, they will always be will notify about each article that is published.

To subscribe to a newsletter on LinkedIn, you must click on the “subscribe” button that you can find in your feed or in the notification you receive.

To see which newsletters you have subscribed to, you must click on the “My network” icon. In it you will find the option “Manage my network” in the menu on the left side, and there you will see the option “Newsletters”, from where you can manage your subscriptions.

To unsubscribe from newsletters on LinkedIn, you must click on the three-dot icon in the notification and select the option “Unsubscribe”.

Linkedin as a source of subscribers for email marketing

Over the last few years, due to the initial difficulty of getting subscribers, many businesses consider taking shortcuts and carrying out “illegal” campaigns.

These include using LinkedIn contacts as a quick and “easy” source of subscribers.

It consists of connecting with a multitude of people through LinkedIn who perform key jobs in sectors that we consider to be within our market to later export the contacts and start sending them company information through the newsletter, whether commercial or content.

But thanks to the new Linkedin option, this action should be finished.

How to attract subscribers through Linkedin

– Publish on our wall or on the LinkedIn corporate page the existence of our Newsletter so that people sign up voluntarily. If we add an incentive, such as some documentation of interest, the success rate will be higher.
Directly request the possibility of including this person in our Newsletter through a private message. If there is any incentive, the same as before.
– Organize a work meeting with the person of interest or take advantage of a face-to-face event in which to coincide and propose the inclusion in the Newsletter.
– Organize a face-to-face event, promote it on LinkedIn and give attendees the opportunity to sign up for the Newsletter

Another way to find new subscribers is through groups. Look for those who might have more potential clients and leave out the ones that are clearly job-hunting focused.

Participate by leaving comments and sharing interesting links. As in your profile, take care of your interventions so that members recognize the value of your contributions and, when you publish promotional information to recommend your newsletter, they are more predisposed to sign up.
