The so-called digital era has had a noticeable impact on our lives and we already find all of the above “prehistoric”. In fact, not that many years have passed, at least since the second phase of the digital era, in 1995, when computers were connected through the Internet and cyberspace emerged.

But once we get used to the advantages of something that is now even indispensable, we can only look in one direction: forward. And this is what happened with e-commerce, the logical consequence of the digital era, and whose exponential growth is an irrefutable reality.

There is practically nothing that cannot be compared with an online store, even the most implausible things. As if this were not enough, the particular circumstances we have experienced during the year 2020, have once again revealed the importance of having an online store, a resource that has allowed many businesses to survive in difficult times.

With so much evidence, those who had not yet jumped on the bandwagon of the advantages of an online store are beginning to seriously consider it. But even so, there are still some who are afraid to embark on it, and most of the time it is unfounded fear. Let’s see why.

Clearing up unknowns without fear

Fear has several faces, one of them even positive because it contributes to our survival. But it can also lead us to the opposite, slowing down our initiatives and making us lose opportunities. Therefore, the first step is to apply “cool heads” and let ourselves be guided by reason. Let us therefore analyze the main fears that often arise when a person considers having his own online store to develop his business.

The first of them is the fear of the failure of the acceptance of the product or service. Questions such as “is it compatible with an online store,” “will it sell easily on the Internet,” “will my potential customers look for it on the net?”.   These questions are very easy to answer: you only need to look at the Internet to see that all kinds of products and services can be found on offer.  It’s true that there are sectors that are particularly favored by an online store, such as fashion, technology, crafts, travel or entertainment.

But this does not mean that other very different sectors cannot benefit from having an online store, as has already been demonstrated. The key to success lies in trusting the product or service we are going to offer, and showing it to the world on the Internet. If this action is accompanied by a good marketing strategy, the possibilities of achieving conversions and profitability in an online store will multiply.

If you are still curious to know what the most sold products on the Internet are, you can consult them in various ways: the Google Trends tool, which allows you to see search statistics with segmented results. The IAB Spain Ecommerce studies, on whose website you can access data to check the most sold products on the net. And the CNMC (National Commission for Markets and Competition), a public body that shows data on Internet commerce and online sales by sector.

Avoiding guesswork: seek advice

Costs are another of the most common fears to face when considering having an online store. The flood of offers that appear on the Internet contributes to this, and can cause confusion and even mistrust. In this case, the solution is to avoid speculation and go directly to a professional of online marketing and business development on the Internet.

Depending on the characteristics of the business and the budget available, a marketing agency will propose all the possible alternatives adapted to the circumstances. It is a question of offering a service as it is profitable, generating a measurable investment and applying a strategy with concrete tools adjusted to that business, and not to another one.

At least this is the philosophy that we apply in Somos Sinapsis, which in addition to planning, implementing and managing the online sales projects of our customers, we also provide them with the necessary knowledge to be able to do it themselves if they prefer.

But let’s continue with the list of fears to overcome, which there is still another very common one. We refer to the fear of uncertainty or results. What happens is that this particular fear can assail us in any aspect of life. And precisely, it is one of the most limiting fears that we must combat in any way. Nothing is certain in life, that is true, but there are possibilities based on real and concrete facts that are part of the gears of the world to keep it turning.

Don’t let unjustified suspicion stop you from having an online store.  Look for someone who can clear up your doubts, showing you the best way to do it.  It is not brave who is not afraid: it is brave who faces what makes him afraid.
