URL (Uniform Resource Locator), it is simply the address that is given to a unique resource on the web in order to be able to be located. This object path can be both a web page and a document or any other type of element.

The strings that make up a URL are alphanumeric, so when defining a search, all data must be entered strictly. On the other hand, we must know that there cannot be two identical URLs, absolutely all of them are different and unique.

Characteristics of a URL

Each URL is made up of three basic characteristics.

  • Precision. As we mentioned before, if we want to obtain the result we are looking for, we will have to rigorously write the URL, otherwise we will not find the desired information.
  • Sequence. As it is an ordered sequence of details, when writing the sequence we are looking for, it must also be done in an orderly manner.
  • Singularity. Each URL is exclusive for a web page, no two are alike that provide us with the specific element we are looking for.

Composition of a URL

These are the parts that make up a URL.

  • Network protocol. It is the one that will indicate to our device the type of connection to be made. The most common when we use the internet is that the URL’s start with http or https but there are other types of protocols such as ftp:
  • Service. It refers to support services and the most common is www.
  • Domain. It is the name with the extension which decides what is going to be displayed in that place, they are registered by companies or users.
  • Route. It comes after the bar behind the domain and it will be what determines the file that we are going to access.
