What is marketing?

If we Google the word Marketing, the definition appears:

Set of techniques and studies that aim to improve the commercialization of a product“.

This definition is quite close to reality, but today we can say that it goes further. Marketing is not just about marketing a product. Marketing is responsible for capturing your attention, loyalty and satisfying your needs as a consumer.

For this, it is important to prepare a good strategy, and when we talk about strategy we mean having a marketing plan where the objectives to be achieved for the brand are defined.

And now you wonder what all this previous stuff is about, of marketing? So I tell you:

Following a campaign launched by @BurgerKingUK 8M has made me wonder what is happening “right now” in the world of marketing. Because it seems that we are becoming a little “crazy” without wanting to;) when launching marketing campaigns to get attention.

 

If you don’t know what happened to Burger King on March 8, I’ll give you a brief summary

@BurgerKingUK tweets: “Women belong in the kitchen

And from here you can imagine the mess that was mounted.

If we analyze the tweet first, our reaction is: -Oh no! They have gone crazy! Obviously. But we go further, and if it is not really the message that Burger King wants to give. And here you will tell me…. Well, Mariona, her message is very clear. And I tell you yes yes, but what if it is not the message that they really want to convey? What if behind this tweet there is a marketing campaign that is just having exactly the expected results? And you will say to me: -well and what do you want to achieve ?. Well, I see it very clearly, they have managed to talk about them to the fullest on a great day like 8M in which thousands of users are connected, to publicize a fantastic initiative that they are carrying out for women.

And this is where many doubts come to me:

  • Is this the way to generate engagement for our campaigns?
  • Is this how we arouse the interest of our users?
  • Could it be that today, anything goes in marketing?
  • What do you think? Is it a good form of marketing strategy?

The only thing I know is that without a doubt, Burger King became a trending topic in an 8M and that it has managed to make us know about its H.E.R initiative unknown to many of us until now.
