The latest update to WhatsApp brings with it a new feature, the “Add to Cart” button. This new button is intended to make shopping on the instant messaging platform even easier.

With the arrival of the “Shopping Cart” feature, WhatsApp aims to provide a complete shopping experience for the application, where users can view different products, build carts, place orders and pay, all in the same messaging application.

WhatsApp Business users will be able to search for catalogues and products in their business accounts and then use the “Add to Cart” button to place an order with the company, with the possibility of initiating a conversation with them about the product to be purchased.

The new “Add to Cart” button

WhatsApp’s “Add to Cart” button allows users to add multiple items from a company to the cart and order directly through the application. The button is available to all WhatsApp users worldwide.

Like any other e-commerce or mobile application, WhatsApp will now give users the option to add or remove one or more items from their cart. WhatsApp users will also be able to view the products added to the basket.

Once the vendor confirms the order, the user can make payment via Whatsapp Pay to complete the order and start the process of delivering the product. The application has also made it easier for merchant accounts to manage orders simply and quickly.

The new button comes to WhatsApp to facilitate the experience of consumers who use this channel to communicate with businesses. The carts are also an excellent tool for communicating with companies that often sell several items at once.

The WhatsApp instant messaging platform has also brought a new trolley-themed sticker to its “Open for Business” sticker pack so that merchants can start promoting their business within groups and chats on the platform.

All these new features offer a great boost to help enterprises improve sales. WhatsApp users will be able to shop without leaving the application.

WhatsApp currently has over 175 million people using its platform to engage in conversation with commercial accounts, and now with the new shopping carts, companies will be able to better track order enquiries.

How to order using the cart

When a user visits a company’s catalogue on WhatsApp, they can use the “Send message to company” option to start a conversation or press the new “Add to cart” button.

Adding Products to WhatsApp Cart

  1. Open the WhatsApp application
  2. Go to the profile of the company, which offers the product you want to buy.
  3. Click on the shop button next to the company name to access the catalogue.
  4. When the catalogue is opened, look for the products you want to order.
  5. Click on the product you wish to purchase.
  6. Click on the “Add to Cart” button. If you want to ask a question about the desired product, you can use the option “Send message to the company”.

Edit the shopping cart

  1. Click “View Cart” to see all the products that were added.
  2. If you wish to return to the product catalogue to add more products to the shopping cart, you can use the “Add more” option.
  3. You can also edit the quantity of each of the products that were added to the shopping cart.

Placing an order on WhatsApp

  1. Once the WhatsApp shopping cart has been updated and reviewed, it can be sent to the vendor as an instant message.
  2. After sending the message, the user will have the option to click the “View Cart” button in the chat window with the vendor to view the order details.

Users can edit the message before sending the cart to the vendor. If the user wants to get information about several products from the seller’s catalogue, they can add them to the cart and send a query in one message. Orders are only completed once the seller confirms them.
