The vast majority of social networks that exist allow us to publish content from our computer. One of the most popular and most used has just been added to this fact recently. Instagram has joined to allow publications from the computer. This feature was already available to a few users since June of this year. Since last October 21, Instagram has approved the publication of photos through the computer for everyone.
Instagram appeared when smartphones began to be known as an application that was used to publish photos using a mobile phone. Specifically, it was born on October 6, 2010. At the beginning, Instagram was an exclusive iPhone application, in 2012 the version for Android was presented and in 2016 for Windows Phone. For eleven years they have been loyal to their principles although adding new functions such as stories, filters, private messages … to match other social networks. However, despite all these innovations, it remained a typical application for mobile phones.
From the computer you could enter Instagram, but it did not allow the direct upload of photos or videos. The only possibility to upload content to the application from the computer was using third-party applications. This has changed forever, the more than one billion active users of the social network can now post on Instagram from any browser.
At Somos Sinapsis, we may be wrong, however we think there is a main reason why Instagram has decided to make this change to its platform. Many of the social networks that we know have become key agents for the digital marketing and advertising processes. Allowing the upload of content from a PC facilitates both individual users and businesses and companies daily actions.
It is no longer necessary to resort to third-party applications to publish on Instagram
As we mentioned in the previous section, if we wanted to upload photos to the platform from our computer, we had to resort to third-party applications. Instagram was firm to work on this new function since June, although only for a few users. From the appointed date, October 21, any user who wishes can use their PC to publish content on Instagram. Although at the moment this function is limited to publications, in the future Instagram will support the uploading of content to Stories or Reels from the computer.
Just a few months ago, although there were already ways to post on Instagram from a computer, the truth is that it was quite complicated. There was no specific function to upload posts from the desktop. It was necessary to enter the inspection mode of the browser and change the display of the page to a mobile format. This somehow made the platform’s website believe that we accessed from a mobile phone and allowed us to upload publications. As you can see, the process was a bit slow and annoying due to the difficulty of the steps that had to be followed as the platform did not have its own integration.
How to add posts to Instagram from your computer.
Being able to upload photos to Instagram from our computer is something that for many people can be very comfortable. Certainly it has not always been possible, more than anything because this function had been forgotten by the platform. But as now it can be done, we are going to tell you how to do it.
- To begin we will open Instagram on our computer from the browser.
- Click on the + button that is located in the upper right corner.
- We will upload the photograph that we want to share with our followers. We can drag it with the mouse or select it from the computer’s image gallery.
- If we want, we can edit the size of the photo by zooming in or choosing the original format, 1: 1, 4: 5 or 16: 9. In addition, new images can be added to upload a gallery with several photos. To continue with the procedure, we will click on Next.
- Now we can edit the image with the filters that the application already has or using other types of tools such as saturation. Once we have finished we will click on Next again to continue.
- We reach the last stage of the process prior to publication adding an explanation, description or particularity about the image. We can also add the location, texts for people with vision problems and even deactivate the comments if we wish.
- Once we have all the steps completed, we will only have to click on Share to upload our publication from the computer.
