Twitter Spaces is Twitter’s new feature, which allows its users to create a voice chat room in which the host or creator of the room can control the invitation of users, explain them away and even mute them.

According to the social network Twitter, voice chat rooms can be public or private. There is no capacity restriction and participants can be assigned different profiles.

In short, what Spaces offers is a tool to create public audio-based chat rooms (not restricted by listeners). All this without leaving the Twitter application itself.

What can you do with Twitter Spaces?

Twitter, the social network of the blue bird, aims to make Twitter Spaces available to all its users worldwide next month.

Spaces is a new Twitter feature in the existing Twitter app, so users can join the space, keep listening, minimize it and scroll through their feed without any hassle.

Twitter Spaces also allows users to respond with emojis in audio rooms, a feature made possible by the connection to Periscope.

New Twitter Spaces enhancements

Chat room scheduling

The host will be able to schedule the broadcast of their space so that users interested in listening to them do not need to know the time to post the link to access them immediately after the link is created.

New interface and features for users

Twitter has made a number of improvements to Twitter Spaces, in addition to highlighting each speaker and host, it also has a new visual presentation of all speakers and listeners in the same room.

The visitor’s full view of the space camera is a key improvement, because until now you can know how many people are present, but you can’t access the full list of people present at the time.

Chat room overview button

Another update that Twitter Spaces will provide is that administrators will be able to press a button to get an overview of attendees and divide them into various groups by “speaker”, “request” (users looking to join the meeting room) and “audience” tags.

Listeners will also be able to access similar lists to find speakers and listeners in a single tab.

How to use Twitter Spaces

  • Press the “Compose” button for more than a second, then select the new “Space” icon on the left side of the screen, or select “Float” in the profile picture, scroll to the right and select the “Space” option.
  • You can have up to 10 speakers. To select a speaker, you must choose between the “Everyone”, “People you follow” or “Only people you invite” tabs, which will allow you to send them invitations.
  • When you start, the microphone will turn off, and when you are ready to begin, simply press “Start Space”. You must grant access to the microphone to start broadcasting.
  • Choose whether you want to share the transcript by pressing the “On-Off” button.

Differences between Spaces and Clubhouse

Although Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces have a similar basis for sharing audio content, one of the differences is that Spaces allows you to share a link to the audio room via direct messages or tweets.

Although Twitter Spaces is an alternative to Clubhouse on Android, Clubhouse is designed specifically for audio rooms. The two apps have similar functions and interfaces, but have different goals.

Twitter has added Spaces as a new feature and Clubhouse is a standalone app. Based on our usage, we can say that the two coexist and users will be faced with difficult decisions when it comes to choosing one of them.

Operating systems

Unlike Clubhouse (the trendy social network where you can only share audios), Twitter Spaces will be available for iOS and Android operating systems.

Emojis

In Spaces, users can also react with emojis to what speakers are saying. In Clubhouse, on the other hand, there is no such possibility. Even so, the features, interface and operation of Twitter Spaces and Clubhouse are very similar.

Privacy

Compared to Clubhouse, Twitter Spaces is more inclusive. Not only does it exist on Android and iOS platforms, but it does not require any invitation to join. Users can follow Twitter Spaces on the Twitter social network and that’s it. Spaces also does not require a dedicated app for it.
