The well-known social network Twitter has launched its new feature called Superfollow. This is a paid subscription that allows content creator followers to be supported and have access to early or exclusive posts. To understand each other better, it is about paying to get exclusive information before anyone else about what the people we follow publish.

When someone on the social network offers a Superfollow subscription, Superfollowers can see additional tweets that have been created especially for them. In turn, the Superfollowers obtain badges in each of the responses they send to the user they are following, thus standing out in the conversation.
If we think about it, this is how some private television networks have done. A parallel channel is created for which you have to pay a subscription and in return you get previews of programs exclusively for those who pay. It is not that it is exactly what Twitter has done, but it is an example that serves to give us an idea.

It is a new twist of the application to implement monetization options, let’s remember that at the beginning of this year 2021 it bought Revue. This tool is aimed at creating newsletters facilitating the connection between followers and followed earning money. Before Twitter bought it, the application had paid rates and also free for those who had less than 50 followers. Once it was bought, Twitter decided to modify that pricing model. After this purchase Twitter pursued ways to find new ways to generate income. Later, and after a trial period, the application officially launched the Superfollow.

At the moment and as far as we know, the new tool is only available in the US and for users of the iOS operating system. Here we will have to wait a while.

Exclusivity for the most loyal followers

Exclusivity is on, well, more than on, it is the element that serves to denote the difference between them. Accessing exclusive content is only available to those who want to pay to obtain it. Twitter takes advantage of this to create a feeling of complicity and transform it into an incentive for creators to build a closer community.
According to Twitter, the content creators of Superfollowers will have to focus on some basic precepts that the social network has established.

  • Proximity. Content creators will have to be close to their fans by providing a more direct relationship with them. In this way they will achieve a greater commitment by creating a mutual bond, also known as engagement.
  • Entertainment and fun. Creators must show passion and happiness with the work they do regardless of whether this is their source of income.
  • Capital. Money will be the goal and the way to approach the content creator’s career, it will be taken as a full-time job.
  • Popularity. All creators will want to have the widest possible audience, which is not as simple as it sounds. What today is fashion tomorrow or that same day stops being so, so they will have to be updated the second. Only in this way will they ensure that their fans are “hooked” on their publications and return to visit them day after day.

Superfollow launch stage

Like everything in life, this also goes in phases and in the Superfollow launch phase it will be limited to a small group of creators. This group must comply with the following rules.

  • The content creator must be of legal age and therefore over 18 years of age.
  • Profiles must have a minimum of 10,000 followers.
  • The account must be a minimum of three months old.
  • The content creator will have tweeted at least 25 times in the last month.
  • As mentioned above, Superfollow will only be available in the US and Canada for the time being. It won’t be long until this option is available globally.

Who is Superfollow intended for?

This new tool is intended for any active user who has a profile on Twitter and shows content of interest. The really ideal candidates for this novelty are influencers, content creators and the media. Obviously they are the ones who normally have the most followers on social networks. But convincing your followers that they have to pay to get exclusive content can be a difficult task. More in these times, since not everyone is willing to drop their pockets for what things. And it is that segmentation is going to be the main risk that Twitter is going to face.

Twitter accounts could be public or private, but there was no limitation to follow content published on the platform. With this new option everything changes and although it should not cause problems, the changes are sometimes not well received by the public. Only with the passage of time and the operation of the tool will we be able to know if it has been a good or a bad idea to carry it out.
