These first months of 2021 are being especially extraordinary in terms of search algorithm updates. It is common for Google to make small updates to its algorithm throughout the year. But the rhythm that is being seen these days is really unusual. On March 10, our search algorithm variability monitoring tools detected a new possible update:
In addition, between days 10 and 11 we also detected an important update of the local search algorithm as we can see in the RankFlux Score of the BrightLocal tool:
And, as BrightLocal’s friends posted on Twitter: “LocalRankFlux is reporting its biggest number to date.” It is not just one specific industry but all of them, they said “All industries are trending above their norm with real estate being particularly volatile…But don’t panic and don’t make any big changes yet! it’s always possible this could be a Google bug.”
How these search algorithm updates have affected our accounts
The simultaneous effects on several of the accounts that we manage from Sinapsis have been peculiar. 40% have shown an upward trend, another 40% have suffered a fall in positioning. While the remaining 20% has been stable.
At Sinapsis we continue to monitor the volatility of the algorithm and, for now, we are cautious about making any decision, especially in accounts where local search is especially relevant.
