Small and medium enterprises are in the spotlight on Facebook, which aims to become the company that makes it easier for them to interact with their potential customers. And as a sign of its intentions, Facebook has already made the news public: in a few months, Facebook Hosting Services will be available.

What is not known at the moment is the exact date, and the possibility is being considered that it will be within the first half of 2021.  With this new service, far from trying to compete with Amazon Web Services, what the social networking giant is trying to do is sell hosting services to small vendors who already use Facebook’s messaging and who are likely to use the platform to sell online.

In times of pandemic, the possibility of digitising a business is not only an opportunity, but in some cases, the salvation of some businesses.

A free hosting solution for businesses

“To great evils, great remedies”. Facebook responds at just the right time with this new service, a new “wink” to companies so that they can use their platform’s hosting infrastructure for free. In this way, companies using the Facebook API can save the costs of other local solutions or expensive servers. Thus, by using Facebook hosting for free, companies will be faced with a lower expense, something that in recent months has become particularly important for many businesses.

Meanwhile, Facebook has limited itself to making the announcement, generating not little expectation. However, it has not yet made a statement on where it will be hosting the data, although it is expected to do so soon.

Facilitating the digitisation of small and medium enterprise

Facebook knows all about it, and the current great fragmentation of the hosting market is an opportunity for the social network with its global profile. The growing connections with SMEs through other services, as well as the enormous network of data centres around the world that it has developed for its own company, will allow it to offer the service to third parties.

Providing a hosting service to small and medium sized companies is a great opportunity, as it means they can go digital. They will sell their products, update their inventory and respond to messages received, no matter where their employees are.

2020 has certainly been a year of positive change for Facebook, which is working tirelessly to make it easier for users, companies and local businesses to connect on its platform. And everything points to it maintaining an upward trend in that direction. We will be seeing that.
