The anchor text is the text used in the links to a web page. It is a word or text on which we can click and that acts as a link to redirect to the site to which it has been previously designated. It is one of the most important factors in the search algorithm of browsers because it determines the organic positioning of our website.
The word anchor was used in older versions of HTML. Today it is known as an element.

Its importance is based on the fact that it is the text of a hyperlink or link whether it redirects to the same page or to another external one. It is the most influential agent of the link technique of our website since it is the part that users see of the link. It is the only element with which we have to attract attention and achieve the desired click that will take users right where we are interested.

Types of anchor text

Taking into account their content, we can divide them into five different types:

  • Generic anchor text. They are used for generic phrases such as Sign up here. As far as possible we should avoid this type of anchor word since, for example, the Google search engine penalizes its use.
  • Branded anchor text. They are the ones that use the name of the company, brand, etc … directly to link.
  • Naked Link anchor text. They are the copy and paste of a web address. This is another one that we would have to avoid if we want to have a good positioning and that Google does not penalize us.
  • Image anchor text. It is the one used using the alternative description.
  • LSI anchor text. With this type we can put a text defining what we want to link, it is the most correct choice to use an anchor word.
