The enormous impact of influencers is reflected in revealing figures: according to statistical studies, around 84% of consumers make a purchase based on a digital post. Given such evidence, it was almost inevitable that the social networks would provide a favourable environment for these opinion mobilisers, particularly on an economic level.

A formula based on monetisation and subscription programmes was needed to promote the profits of creators and companies. And it has not been long in coming: it is called Clubhouse Payments. From now on, users who want to make a financial contribution to their favourite content creators will find it very easy with this new function.

How Clubhouse Payments works

Once the Clubhouse Payments function has been enabled and the creator’s profile has been accessed, a “Send Money” button will appear. By clicking on it, the amount of money to be sent can be selected. When this is the first time this function is used, a debit or credit card is required to be entered and a payment processing fee is charged in addition.

This is done through Stripe, the payment platform associated with Clubhouse for this new function. The social network has clarified that this commented option is only the first of several through which creators will be able to monetise their content.

Clubhouse issued a statement to announce that all users would be able to send payments from the same day. The social network would be implementing the ability to receive such payments starting with a test group created at the time of the announcement.  The social network’s intention was to gather feedback, fine-tune the feature and roll it out to everyone as soon as possible.

Supporting creators directly

Clubhouse has stated its intention that payments made through this new feature will go directly to the chosen influencers. In this way, the social network underlines its support for content creators on its platform. The announcement of this initiative has been very well received, despite the fact that not receiving revenue from these payments does not boost the company’s sustainability.

Other platforms that monetise content creators charge commissions on their revenue: in fact, most do. This favours Clubhouse Payments, which with its option of a direct income differentiates itself from the rest, being a good bait to attract users and expand its community.

In fact, Patrick Collison, CEO of Stripe, has already declared his excitement for the flourishing economic horizon that is already on the horizon for creators, and is betting on what he describes as a “new era of internet business models”. For the moment, all indications are that his enthusiasm is justified.
